PRESIDENT LUNGU URGES PARLIAMENT AND ZAMBIA’S MEDIA TO TAKE NOTE OF CA SUCCESSES.
In his Presidential Address to the National Assembly on 13th September 2019, His Excellency E.C.Lungu drew specific attention to the example set by a CF farmer, Mr. Raymond Mufwambi, who despite the terrible drought of the 2018/19 season in Southern Province, had yielded a good maize crop using mechanized min-till CA. Whilst his neighbors had experienced almost total crop failure, Mr Mufwambi had managed an average of 100 x 50kg bags of Maize per ha on his CA plot – and only 20 x 50kg bags per ha on the area he had ploughed. The President urged media to spread the story, noting the CF best practice that had been used, and the climate change resilience it had lent.
This was not the first time this year that the President made specific, public note of the benefits of CA. Following on from having his own fields ripped last November, he attended a Pannar hosted Field Day at Mr Mufwambi’s farm in the Katundulu area of Kaoma in May, and another Field Day at the farm of impressive CA adopter Mr. Wisdom Mababe in Big Concession area of Mumbwa in early June. At both he drew attention to the impressive results CA achieved, and implored other farmers in Zambia to adopt CA. He argued that if this was done, there would be no hunger.
